Help for Heroes

On Saturday 17th September 2011,  I did ‘table-hopping’ magic at the Hereford Shire Hall for ‘Help for Heroes’.

“Help for Heroes was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry in October 2007 out of a desire to help the wounded Servicemen and women returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. The message of the charity is simple: We are strictly non political and non critical; we simply want to help. We believe that anyone who volunteers to serve in time of war, knowing that they may risk all, is a hero. These are ordinary people doing extraordinary things and some of them are living with the consequences of their service for life. We may not be able to prevent our soldiers from being wounded, but together we can help them get better.”    (Help for Heroes)

The evening comprised of people sporting their gowns and tuxedos to which you could have a professional photographer capture metres away from entering the Shirehall.
“The Shirehall was built after a plan of Sir Robert Smirke and is remarkable for the unassuming beauty of its exterior, as well as the pleasing arrangement of the interior.  Besides the courts and rooms necessary for the transaction of assize and magisterial business, it contains a large room which is used at elections and other public meetings, but also as an assembly-room.  This is where concerts take place.  The capacity of the room depends upon the seating layout used but it can accommodate up to 400.  It has fine acoustics for music-making.” (Shirehall)

There were 18 tables of 10 seatings which I went around doing several tricks.
It was very pleasant to have loud clapping and cheers from each table, which made the tables I have yet to attend immensely intrigued as they turned round curious to what I was actually doing.
There was plenty of lovely feedback and it was so rewarding to know that everyone really enjoyed themselves for this great cause.

The evening followed with some great live singing from Aaron who got everybody in high spirits by blasting hits from Robbie Williams, Love Affair, Ronan Keating, Brian McFadden, George Michael, Neil Diamond, Kean, Damion Rice, James Blunt, Elvis, The Beatles, Jerry Lea Lewis and and many more.

It was a huge success with over 3.5k was raised.
