October 1st 2011 – Britain’s most scorching October day in more than a century

According to the Daily Mail, October 1st 2011 “has officially been declared Britain’s most scorching October day in more than a century.” and it was also one of my most enjoyable days for entertaining outside yet. Let me clarify, that it is pretty much always enjoyable when I am pursuing  something I am very passionate about – entertaining, so what made this day special?

On this glorious day I had two magic gigs – performing at a wedding in the afternoon at Parkfields Country House (the bride and groom couldn’t have picked a better day!), then in the evening I was employed to amuse the guests at the Three Counties Showground.

On arrival to Parkfields Country House, based at Pontshill in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, I was greeted with a big welcome sign which said “Welcome to Herefordshires best kept secret”. The venue “is set in eleven acres of the finest Herefordshire,

I performed for ninty minutes till 5pm. The wedding guests were great fun, I received fantastic feedback along with some banter.

My next gig was at 6pm at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern. for a big caravan event.

I arrived in good time and discovered I was to entertain the guests before the ‘Johnny Cash Tribute Show’. Now this was a tribute my wife and I have seen twice before, we highly recommend them and you can check out their website at

There were roughly40 tables of 10 seaters and I executed magic at half of them. The tables I performed at appeared to be thrilled and happy to see some of my close-up magic , however I was a little disappointed not to have managed all of the tables, even if I was to extend my time limit and offer to do it for free, it was not possible because at 7.45pm, the lights went out and the tribute band were on.

It was a very memorable day for me which comprised of splendid weather, lots of smiles and laughters, great scenery, smell of BBQ’s and plenty of enjoyment.
